Question Do X-rays machines damage laptops, mp3s, ipods, and other electronic stuff?

I always wanted to know about this, do the x-rays have an effect on the electronics in any way? can it damage data in the hard disk? It's been a long time since the last time I travelled by plane and I didn't have a laptop then, now I do

Anyway what do you know about this?

I wouldn't think so since i believe there would be a lot of complaints about data loss due to the machines and it would definently be publicized.

Maybe someone else can give an explanation for why it dosent affect it in that way since in any normal case a relatively strong magnetic field can easily wipe a harddisk

lol! agreed. that show rocks!

i don't know if it's the same in other countries that you have to put all your electronics in your bag at the airport. i don't think the xrays damage your laptop as mine is fine so is my ipod and cellphone.

The last time I went to the UK, I had my Averatec, two digital cameras, my Digital8 camcorder, and a cheap MP3 player. All was carry-on and all made it through the X-Ray machine just fine!

Realize these X-Ray machines are nothing compared to the ones used in doctor's offices where you wear the lead vest and everyone leaves the room! I've never had any electronics around one of those...

I flew over the summer, and I brought my Zune with me, and I turned it off, and it was fine.

I actually had the same question before I went on the trip.
I also had my backup Ipod Nano, which was fine.

I don't think they're strong enough to damage a hard-drive. They can damage film though.

Not digital.
I had a camera, and a phone with a camera on it, both were fine.

Maybe the film stuff.
