I have already cut it to around 5 m and yes I have a crimping tool. I have made the cable and am using it already. Just wanted to know whether it was too long and slowing my download speed etc etc.

As for extra length I don't need it as in comparison to a 100m cable it is very short and I do have an extra 2 ft anyway.

I was asking because i'm sure some "noobs" may just coil up the 1000ft cable so it only takes up one foot of space, and think that will fix the problem.

You can get a crimping tool very cheaply off ebay. I have tried 50 metres before and there was no problems.
