Hi, i'm trying to help my friend put a computer together. i got all of the parts (except HD) from my brother, so thats an Antec case with a P4 2.4 ghz, 1.5gb RAM, antec 430w PSU, an ASUS vid card, sound card, i think a sony dvd-rw, all on an ASUS P4S8X-X mobo, and then she bought a 160gb Maxtor Basics ATA/100 HD. i tried putting it in and booting up, and installing windows. windows runs fine thru installation until it's finished copying the files and rebooting. upon rebooting, the mobo makes a few beeps, the screen turns on and off, and when i can finally get it to stay on, it appears to be resetting over and over, showing the "Press any key to boot from disc....." message. I can reset the computer and if i press a key to boot from disc, it goes thru the setup process again and i run into the same problem. anyone have any idea why this might be happening? i wasnt sure about the HD because i wasn't there to buy it with her, so i dont know for sure that its compatible, but i have built a couple computers before and this problem seems very strange to me. any help is greatly appreciated! thanks..

you need to set the HDD as the first bootup device. also take the windows cd out of the cdrom

Have you tried NOT pressing any key or simply removing the disk?
![]() As for the restarting and beeping issue, I'm really not sure. That sounds almost like a hardware issue. Bad RAM or a failing PSU would be my first guesses... Maybe a BIOS update as well?

I think The_Other_One solved your problem ![]() You don't press it again, only once. In other words, remove the CD once it restarts, and go through the setup process that DOESN'T require the CD
