Mail man my guess is since you got this second hand the previous user had something adobe related that never fully uninstalled nad its trying to load it at startup. Can you take a screen shot and post it here for us to see what all you have in msconfig? P.S turning it off in msconfig only speeds up startup and when you need it it will start again this is a common thing i have like 30 things unchecked in my startup..

i have since my last posting resolved the issue through msconfig and better leave it the way it is. i have activated adome writer pro (vers 6) a few times since then w/o issue. now the only issue is that i cannot get rid of that darn ctrl-alt-del issue (as previously mentioned).....( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308226 )

sorry about the wait heres how you do it go to start=> run=> type in "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and then go to the advanced tab and uncheck the box that says "require users to press ctrl+alt+del to logon" hope that works
