Default Aureal Vortex 2

Right,

im swapping my friend a stick of unused ram for this sound card.

Aureal Vortex 2 SQ2500 Quad PCI Sound Card

i have some questions,

1)Is it simply insert the card into a free Pci slot and then install the drivers?

2)Do you think this card will be better than onboard audio? my onboard audio isnt 5.1 or 7.1.

3)will this card replace the work of my processor creating sounds or will the processor still need to do it aswell?

4)do i realy need to connect the cd audio cable that comes with it or not because i have 2 cd drives lol...dvd and cdrw.

but i noticed there isnt any cd audio cable connected to them at the moment.

if people could answer these four questions that would be brilliant.

thanks

1, yes. But make sure you uninstall your old drivers first, and disable the onboard sound in your bio's

2, yes

3, it will take all the work from your cpu.

4, no you do not need to connect your cd to the card.

Have fun with that! Looks like it could eat your first born if you were not careful! Let us know how it sounds, Im in the market for a good sound card for my 7.1 speakers . The onboard sounds on my Asus M2N-Plus board just is not cutting it.

yeah it does look good, especially with its 2x output ports (green)

i dont think its anything special though i mean i think its quite an old card but it must be better than the on board sound on my old socket A motherboard lol.

ive got nothing to loose realy because im stright swapping it for a stick of 256Mb ram which i dont use anymore and its just sitting in my draw so might aswell put it to some use.

That is what's called a Game Port. To connect joysticks and such.

I've always used Realtek, Creative, soundMAX, etc. As a card or audio because I just stuck with the major brands. I really don't know of any other brands. That card looks pretty good. I like the 2 audio out ports, I like that, and I don't have a game port... So in the future it would be nice to have one instead of USB. That looks like a really good card, hope you like it.

It's a pretty old card, all online review are compared with SB live and value cards, and done on games such as Half Life. It'll definetly sound better than your onboard sound, but don't expect wonders. However seeing that you're getting it in trade for a stick of un-used ram, good deal .

@ukulele_ninja: DON'T get this card for your speakers, it's probably not onsale anywhere either. If you want good sound, look no further than the x-fi lineup.
