Default Cant install XP onto harddrive

I just got a harddrive today from newegg (160gb sata)

I am trying to install windows xp onto it....but when i press setup windows xp, it says the harddrive isnt found....


How can i fix this?

It sounds like you need to provide your motherboard with SATA drivers via floppy disk.

Well, I took out the harddrive from my XPS (which works fine with windows media) and put my new one in place of it. When I go into the BIOS, it knows its there..

It may be different in other computers, it all depends on the motherboard really.

THe BIOS knows it's there but if the SATA controller isn't native then windows cannot see it without providing SATA drives by the F6 method at the beginning of setup.
