Default Case firewire port...

My motherboard (gigabyte p35-ds3r) does not have a firewire connector on the back. However, my case (antec p180), has one on the front. I've hooked up the case just fine, seeing as how the front usb and audio ports function, but I can't seem to get the firewire port to work..(I plugged in a camera and nothing happens on the computer). Did I need a motherboard that already supported firewire to use it?

USB and firewire have different connections/headers. You will need a motherboard or card that supports firewire.

Here's one that will allow you to plugg the front panel firewire port into it

lol. I figured as much after i checked my motherboard manual..I just used my sister's macbook to rip it. Also, just random trivia, how come nobody uses firewire anymore even though it blows usb 2.0 out of the water?

oh lol. I did some research on it. Apple apparently holds the patent and charges money for every firewire device made...This, however, excludes certain 1394 connections which are the same speed as firewire, which is why you still see it on digital camcorders and almost all laptops today.

Point being: USB was made the standard by powerful tech companies around the world, while firewire was only truly backed by apple, and a bit by sony.
