Smile question about ram

does this have anything to do with why my pc loads slower then normal when booting up? cuz i noticed its not as fast as it used to and right now i got 3 sticks of ddr ram on there clocking at 333mhz.

i got one 256 and 2 512's i think it is

by the way will i do better gettting a set of two

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...020&CatId=1600

of those sticks

or should i cough up more money for dual channel ram and replace all my single channel ram

The reason your system likely has slow start ups has nothing to do with your memory. 1.25 gigabytes is more than sufficient to run Windows XP (if that is the Operating System you are using). You likely have too many programs starting when Windows XP boots up.

You can try this out and see if it boosts your system startup speed:

Click on start
Click on Run...
Type in MSCONFIG.exe
Go to the Start tab
Uncheck all the applications you don't want starting when initializing Windows. (I would uncheck them all.)

After doing this restart your computer.
It should boot up much faster after you do this.

Thumbs up oh ok

i thought the bootup timing goes slower the more sticks of ram you have on the motherboard

It would slightly increase the bootup time with more memory, but not by much.

If you use hibernate option on your computer the startup time is pretty fast. You may be able to get to the hibernate option on Windows XP in the "Turn off computer" menu by holding down the shift key then clicking on the Hibernate option.

When you are in the menu you just described hold down the shift key. It may give you the hibernate option. Some systems allow the hibernate option, some don't.
