Default whats the point of cooling?

so whats the point of cooling the north and south bridge IF the cpu will shutdown everything if overheated? i just got one and then if not neccessary i will just save it and use it on my later build.

Because the mobo will shutdown if the CPU overheats, not if the NB overheats
