http://www.gamespot.com/features/6182140/p-2.html

wow vista isnt worth the money whos to blame nvidia or vista? i think vista is to blame personally cuz just looking at this site and the stuff they say about it convinces me that xp is a better operating system for gaming but the downfall. is dont you need vista to run directx10?

At the moment, yes XP is better for gaming. XP for one does not hog as much memory as Vista. I have 1GB of RAM and its always at 70% even on idle. For games that absolutely require Vista, Halo 2 is the the only one I"m aware of, there are work arounds for them. I'm aware of a patch that enables Halo 2 to work in XP so requiring DX10 to run shouldn't be a problem. Games wouldn't be strictly DX10 exclusive for a long while, they will be backward compatible to DX9 for at the very least the next 2 years I think.
I have found that my benchmark scores are abit lower in Vista than in XP.

Vista isn't the resource hog people have been lead to believe once you understand how the new version works. What uses memory in Vista besides having all of the gadgets and Aero styles, side bar enabled(eye candy there) is the new Super Prefetch feature that takes the most often used programs and puts them into a standby mode for faster loading.

For complaints on gaming the Windows Experience Indexing process(WEI) is what looks at the hardwares installed and gives them a point count where 1 is low and 4-6 is as high as you can get. Tom's Hardware has a good article to review on how this works. http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/04/...ing/page3.html

That's your choice. Microsoft is releasing their new O/S in (I think...) 2009.

2 Years for your decision.

Vista = When you get your hands on an DX10 card and when lots of Vista SP's come out.

So far Vista has been running very close to the same speed XP is on a new build here having upgraded from a 2.21ghz cpu up to 3ghz on the AM2 6000+ X2 dual core model. With Vista already in mind as the second OS here the new build now runs performance memory rather then the value ram seen on the last build.

With any new version of Windows even when 98 was first out the wait for good drivers is always there. 98 saw a second edition then instead of any large service packs like 2000, XP, and now Vista would see. It was early in 2003 when XP saw the light of day here as the first OS. 98SE was still dual booted at the time.
