Kaspersky is another free one that sees good reports. The thing I look for here is results whether free or retail. At least when free you don't have to run out to "buy" the next new version out.

Out of the two, I'd go with AVG Antivirus. Out of all the antivirus products out there, by far NOD32 is the best one.

No matter which one you use there is always "something" that can still slip right past them. There's no such thing as a "one program does all-catches all".

AVG not a resource hog like Mcafee, but has a slow scanning engine

I would take AVG-AntiVir-Avast or Kaspersky anyday over Mcafee or Norton.

Every antivirus company will see either a free for home use or free to try version available. The free to try also klnown as sharewares do of course usually have a preselected time limit. http://www.kaspersky.com/trials
