Default IE crashes my system and firefox won't install.

I put together a new machine running Vista 32-but this week and I am trying to get it online. The problem is that IE locks it up at random intervals forcing me to reboot the thing and when I try to install Firefox I get this error:

Error opening file for writing:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\AccessibleMarshal.dll

I tried looking for a Vista version of Firefox but there doesn't seem to be one.

I think it might be my modem, Bioshock was able to download a large patch though it's own software just fine and that took about an hour and a half, but when I started IE to do anything else it would lock up after about 30 sec. Naturally I assumed it was IE but I just tried to find updated drivers for my monitor though the update driver button in device manager without starting IE and it locked up. So I think it might be the modem. It is an off the shelf USRobotics internal PCI modem, the box says Vista ready but I'm not so sure.

I downloaded the latest 32-bit Vista drivers off the USR website and installed them, I tried to connect and it locked up almost instantly! WTF!! Its not like its a high-end VGA card or something, its just a freaken modem. Why did it let Bioshock download that large file without crapping all over itself and locking up my system? I connected to the net the same way then as I am now so what is different?

I was able to get Firefox installed, I had to select run as admin. I was able to connect and stay connected for 3hrs with no problem. I DL'ed some hotfixes for my VGA card and even played FEAR: Extraction Point while I waited with no problems. When the DL was finished I closed FEAR and opened my downloads folder and before I could click on the hotfix to install it my comp froze. If it was a hardware problem it wouldn't be so selective, if it was a heat problem it would have froze while I was playing FEAR, if it was an IE problem it shouldn't have froze at all since I was using Firefox. I just don't get it. I can't seem to trace the problem.

well, i dont think that it s a hardware problem, but mostly its the vista, I was trying to download McAfee but it wont and also I tried to install symantec but both wont run, and there is anther program called alcoho 120% to run ISO images but I cant able..
So there are some limitations with Vista and thats s**

Even if it is Vista there must be some catalyst. 95% of the time it locks up while I'm online using IE, 4% when I'm online and either using Firefox or not using a browser at all (game is auto updating or something) and only once did it lock up when I was not online, but if memory serves me it was shortly after I needed to reboot from a freez when I was online.
