Office XP Is Opening All Files Very Slowly

I'm having a problem with Office XP. All programs (Excel, Outlook, etc) seem to be running normal, but when I go to open a file for the first time, it take around 1 min for the open file window to pop up. After the first time I open a file, if I go to open another one, there is no problem and the open file window pops up instantly. This happens every time I start the program, any suggestions?

weird, the only thing i know which hogs office from opening files is Norton Antivirus, you aren't using that are you ?

no, we do antivirus through a sonic wall which should not have any effect on Office XP
