I use Avast Anti Virus, but when the scan is complete it lists more than a thousand lines under name of files, with the results being "Unable to scan." Does this mean that I could have viruses that Avast is not finding? Should I change virus protection?
Thank You; mailliw

Sounds like a software glitch where you can try an updated release of Avast or remove that for another like Grisoft's AVG 7.5 free for home edition. If this is being caused by a virus then another program or special remover would be needed to clean things up, AVG is found at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng...i-spyware-free in case a reinstall of Avast with the latest release fails to se results.

Q: When the file scanning is finished, avast! comes up with a number of files listed as "unable to scan", even though I have used a thorough scan. Should I be concerned? A: Some files are permanently locked by the system or they are in password-protected archives. These files cannot be scanned. It is normal and you don´t have to be worried about that.

I never run into that with AVG. With multiple users accounts that would likely be a different story however. For Avast someone forgot to add the link for the faq section seen at http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-other-q....html#idt_1543

At least you now know that there was no reason for concern from some "unvited guest" being seen on the system there.
