FastMail.FM is a free online email provider "free of spam"! Unlike MS Hotmail, inbox.com's 2gb storage capacity with constant spam coming into a predesignated spam folder to automatically close out an account if it fills up over a 2-3week period of time, or GMail you simply create a totally new account with the same user name with the different extention.

You can add your existing account into the contacts list there to forward mail back and forth. On some you can import mail from other accounts once configured. With Outlook Express, Outlook, and TBird you simply receive mail from the ISP's mail server there.

POP is Post Office Protocol incoming mail and SMTP is Simple Mail Transfer Protocol outgoing mail. What mail carrier do you use?

I use Thunderbird and it works great. But like Stranglehold said, you will need to know your POP and SMTP.

Your internet provider should have that info, give them a call or look on their internet support page for that info.

If you know how to setup OE there TBird usually is just as easy if your email comes into Outliook directly or in Vista Windows mail. I renamed the WM icon to Vista's Outlook here. TBird does have an automatic detection feature once you enter the ISP assigned user name and password and select the correct type of account.

Like any other free mail site you have to sign up and see how things go from there. They are advertising spam protection whether that it simply providing a spam folder, blocking spam mail by recognising code, or you setting up filters yourself like even seen with ISP mailboxes. I've had several over the years and dumped many like Hotmail fast for being magnets for spam mail.

Gmail is awesome. I don't even use Outlook anymore. Although you can configure POP access for Gmail in Outlook, it's easier to manage everything w/ the Gmail filters on the web, IMO.

With the exception of private emails here I refer all incoming depending on type to online accounts and am still forced to clean spam off of the ISP's mail server before I can import private mail into OE! I use one or more online accounts to misdirect spammers mainly while saving one or two for practical use. You usually have to go through several to one or two you will stay with.
