Default LG 20LS7D LCD TV, Sony SS-B1000 speakers, Yamaha YST-SW216BL Sub, working together?

I have:
LG 20LS7D LCD TV
Sony SS-B1000 speakers
Yamaha YST-SW216BL Subwoofer

i haven't been able to get my speakers or subwoofer to work with my lcd tv. do i have to get a receiver to make my speakers and subwoofer work with my lcd tv?
i'm new at this, i didn't really worry about with my old sylvania 19'' crt tube tv.

...like the Onkyo TX-SR505 AV Receiver?

Unless the tv has a amplifier built in, then yeah you are going to need an after market amp of some kind. That Onyko should be fine. Though it would be over kill for just a set of bookshelf speakers and 1 sub.

When setting up a surround sound system, it is always best to get matched speakers. Same company and type, just so you know.
