Are laptop 'chill mats' even worth it?

I made my own, mainly for when its on a table or something, fits great on my lap as well.

Its not powered, its a metal mesh material.

I have a compaq R4000 and i bought an argus chillmat and it works wonderful. That thing throws off some serious heat. I recommend them!

I have a Targus chill mat that I used with my old Gateway that overheated all the time. Worked fine for me. Usually cost about 20 or 30 bucks. I think it is a good investment if your machine overheats all the time.
