Default Dolby Digital vs DTS

i was watching Lord Of The Ring The Two Towers recetnly on my desktop.I watched both films on DD and DTS sound format. ok here is the qusestion i noticed that there is a noticable differece between DD and DTS. DTS was louder and detailed than DD (i used Yamaha RXV550 with Mission 780 home cinema speakers series), for some reason DTS sounded better than DTS. Also DD had heavier, deep bass and sounded more like 64kbps of a mp3 song than DTS. Does DTS plays at high bit rate than DD? Does DTS sound better than DD? or are they more or less the same but only matter of how our ear preferences?

I prefer DD cuz its easier to work with Ever try making a 5.1 DTS DVD from scratch? Its not fun. Of course a 5.1 DD DVD isnt much fun either
