I suppose the issue of copywriting would come into play because there would be no way to prevent people from backing up movies that they dont actually own...

some tivo and dvr devices have usb and firewire ports where you can plug in a flash drive or external HD.

I would prefer to have an all in one unit that is also a PC that way I could do everything on one device.
