Default problem with sound jack

I have a gigabyte K8NS ultra 939 mobo. I bought new speakers to use with the onboard sound (I've been using headphones exclusively for about 2 months now). When I plug in the speakers everything works except for the middle slot (the front speaker jack). The speakers aren't faulty...tried them in another slot. I need to know is this a driver related issue? Or is there something I can download to fix this? I don't want to have to return the motherboard because of a broken sound jack...Thanks.

Yes check that the settings for your onboard sound are set to play 5.1 channel or whatever setup you have. If it is and nothing else works for ya then perhaps reinstal the chipset drivers, you do have em installed right? Also make sure there are no newer ones out there.

1 Did you install the drivers?
2. Is that jack configured as an output channel? Lots of onboard sound nowadays use bidirectional ports that can be reconfigured
