Default 7900 and 8600

Im finiding it a bit confusing...why is it that the 7900 series (Gt, GtX etc..) are destroying the 8600 series in all benchmarks? And people are still going the 8600. Why is that? Which is better?

Thanks

The 7900GT, 7950GT, etc are much better then the 8600GT and 8600GTS.

The reason people are going with the 8600 instead is because it's a DX10 card, and they want to have newer technology. Although in reality it's pretty stupid because as i've said numerous times, the 8600 series won't be able to play DX10 games on high settings even. So comparing a DX10 game on medium to a DX9 game using a 7900GT on high settings, the graphics would probably be worse for the 8600.

Like Omega said above plus people thats bound and determined to get a DirectX 10 card and cant afford a 8800GT/GTS. Thats probable hating it now since the 3850 came out, and its a better card for a few bucks more.

well when you can get an ATI 3800 for under 200 bucks theres no reason to get either cards any more, the 3800 series blows them away

you're basically comparing the high-end 7 series cards with mid/low-end 8 series cards - i actually ran the f.e.a.r performance test on all high settings with everything enabled at a 1280x1024 resolution on both my 7950 gt and 8600 gts - the 7950 had a higher framerate than the 8600 gts.

But on newer games 8600 series can sometimes perform better than 7900 series

Just use google and look for benchmarks for BioShock, UT3 and Supreme commander. 8600 series performs as good or sometimes better than 7900 in those games

And if I remember correctly, the 8600 was designed off of Vista... So running Vista will enhance performance
