Sims Install Error

I was recently given a computer from a friend, the computer is about 3 years and had Windows XP Pro installed on it (homebuilt box, no restore CD's

). When trying to install or uninstall the Sims on the computer, I get the following error message from the InstallShield Installer. "Error getting sku number from registry. Aborting installation." This is very puzzling and I have never encountered such an error anytime, especially when uninstalling. I have included a screenshot of the error I keep getting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like your trying to uninstall it...

Try popping in the SIMS CD and try and repair the installation.

I've tried that but I get the exact same error, that's why I only included the screenshot of the uninstall. This error occurs very early in the process. I've never seen anything I couldn't reinstall.
