How to use 2 microphones with a PC

I want to record sound using two microphones at the same but there is only 1 mic-in line on a soundcard. How can I use the line in port to connect two mics? Someone told me I can get a converter that takes 2 mics (mono channel) and coverts it to a dual channel line-in signal. Is that correct? Where can I get it?

You need some sort of computer interface to do that. An interface will give you way better sound quality as well. Check out www.sweetwater.com and search 'computer interfaces' and you can get a lot of info. Otherwise, you really would not be able to record to signals at once. You will also need some sort of recording software too, but I assume you do if your recording...

About the adapter... yes you can get an adapter that would convert two mics to one input, but it would record everything as one signal not two. Not good if your trying to record music or any audio that you want to edit.

Im not sure about Hardware but as for Software: Cubase (http://www.steinberg.net/24_1.html) Will to you nicely

yeah a simple way is to get a head phone splitter. i did that for a project which i needed 3 mics works well actually

Cubase is an awesome program and a lot more affordable than pro tools. Also, Audacity which is free is a very good entry level recording program. Keep in mind though that using those splitters records everything to one signal you will not be able to edit individual signals using splitters! Guess it depends what your recording.
