People lets not fight, to each their own. The only thing I don't like about Apple are their commercials. I mean its so childish to attack your competitor, Apple can make a commercial that shows the advantage of Mac's without bashing the competition.

Yeah dude, i 100% agree. I hate it when people try to promote themselves by putting down others; at schools, in businesses, everywhere.

I'm pretty much happy with XP, but consider the SP3 speed improvement. Just a couple of fixes are applied and what happens? It receives an unexpected 10% speed boost? That tells me it's far from perfect, and that if M$ just spent some extra time with their still widely used products, they could make it even better.

I don't really think M$ should drop Vista, I was being stupid, lol. And I agree that the fighting and bitching and moaning done by fanboys are unconstructive, and plain annoying. I really don't understand all the Mac hate going around, I see it all the time even here. I haven't used a mac since I was 8, But you don't see me bashing a product I know nothing about.

I didn't think that was possible, but if they can make it 10% faster with this upgrade why not? Vista just came out and I suspect the problems will be worked out in time.

I don't think either platform should be bashed each one has its pro's and con's. I use Windows because I always used it and it is compatible with my video games.

Well, the good thing is that a lot of Linux distros (Ubuntu excels in this if you wish it to) is becoming more GUI-centered to tempt MS users who think there is a stigma associated with Open Source, and it's inherent 'not as good' and 'difficult-ness'. O ik, i love the terminal. It's just so much faster then a gui. Want to install firefox? sudo aptitude install firefox, it's that easy. The gui though is nice when you don't feel like typing.
Even from edgy to feisty was a big leap(was feisty the first one with restricted drivers manager?). A lot of users where getting discouraged by installing something as simple as a video card driver, now it can be installed with 3 clicks of a mouse. Next thing is for wifi using ndiswrapper, but the open source drivers now are catching up.

Yes, 7.04 was the first. That is the one area where I'll suck it up and use the GUI. I freakin' *despised* installing graphic cards pre-Feisty. I may have chosen to compile certain applications than to install Nvidia

something i have noticed among vista users/triers is that:

vista uses more ram then xp. so of course it will run noticeably slower then xp on a computer with only 1 gb of ram. thats why its easily possible to upgrade computers. besides that, EVERY OS ran slower then the previous one when put on hardware made for the previous one.
ie, vista runs slower then xp on the hardware that was made for xp
xp ran slower then 98 on hardware that was made for 98
98 ran slower then 95 on hardware that was made for 95
95 ran slower on hardware that was made for 3.1

each os released needs more ram and hard drive space then the previous OS and thus ran slower on hardware that was fine for the previous os.

The original article / comparison at cnet is ridiculous, stupid and irrelevant and only serves to prove that c-net doesn't know anything or are just bad journalists.

FWIW I run "Home Basic" Windows Vista on a very cheap (originally - upgraded lots of stuff) PC with 1.5 gig of RAM and it runs fantastic.
