Default Need access to old hard drive

I got an old hard drive from a computer that just died out on me. I never had the chance to pull everything off of it, like pictures, programs, documents, now I put it in a new computer and I cannot access any of the files from My Documents. Are these files lost forever? Is there anything I can do to access these files without booting up that hard drive as the master?

Does the drive still run? You should be able to recover the files using a data recovery program if you can start up the drive.

the joy of losing data, i've been through it many times.
If you say died, there's probably nothing much you can do.
does the drive even spin when connected ?

what os did you have on the hd?
xp can lock out the my documents folder from any other user including you right now
you can probably get it back some way but i can't think of a way right now

maybe with some bootable cd with which you can get into the filesystem
or try safe mode
