Put the following into a batch file (paste it into notepad and save it as fixupdate.bat), and run it:

Quote:
net.exe stop wuauserv
pause
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
pause
cd /d %windir%
rd /s softwaredistribution
pause
net.exe start wuauserv
You'll have to press OK and any key on the pauses when prompted. But this should fix your issue.

What it does is:
1) Stops the Windows Update Service
2) Makes sure that the Update dll's are properly registered
3) Clears the current update cache
4) Restarts the Windows Update Service.

After you've run this, you'll need to re-download and install the current updates.
