Default AVI files do not play.

I can not get AVI files to play on any software I have tried. This started happening about a week ago. Prior to that they played fine.

WMV, Mpeg and all other file types still play fine.

I have not loaded any software that could have caused this problem. I have downloaded and installed the latest versions of winamp and windows media player to see if that would fix the problem. Neither had any effect.

well vlc player doesnt require codecs to be downloaded.
so your codecs for WMP or whatever must have been lost somehow.

are you fine using VLC? or would you rather be using WMP?

i recommend vlc anyway.

Yea, WMP doesn't have free AVI codecs. you are much better off using VLC.

VLC > then all media players. Takes less memory to run, supports all formats with out codecs, free and open source, runs on windows, OS X and Linux, can stream audio/video over a network, and just is all around better than any other media player. Especially the bloated WMP.

I have been using VLC exclusively for a few years now on my windows box and have never looked back.
