Default Upgrading XP

Hi all

I have a computer with XP Professional loaded, however, it does not have service pack 2 installed. I was thinking that if I used my XP SP2 disc, I could select the upgrade option and install service pack 2 that way. Although, it does require a code. Now, I'm just wondering, if I use the code for my disc in updating this machine, with it not being the code used to install Windows, would it still work in updating?

Also, if it will work, will anything become incompatible? I've not been given any motherboard etc. drivers, so if I upgrade the machine to SP2, is it likely that some drivers will no longer work?

Thanks for your help

1) You can download SP2 from Microsoft for free here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

2) One thing to note though, is that if you have been running XP SP1 for any length of time your computer is probably complete owned, and you may be better off re-installing fresh with your XP SP2 disk anyway.

If you use the XP disk with SP2 included that won't simply install SP2 by itself. Instead you will be replacing the current installation of Windows. Drivers for the board and other hardwares like video and sound cards can be downloaded from the manufacturer's support site.

First look and know that the drivers for what you have there are still available before installing a fresh copy of Windows. That would be the make and model of board, video and sound cards if not onboard, etc. there. An alternate site for the full 266mb redistributable SP2 as well as other types of downloads for other OSs as well as Windows is seen at http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-SP2-RTM.shtml Just click the red button there to download the service pack.

I had an SP1 disk here and know the feeling about redownloading SP2 to see that go on from the MS update site. The redistributable 266mb version can be stored in a folder on the drive in case you have to reinstall Windows with the old disk. Here I simply bought a second XP disk with SP2 included to save on time. And now SP3 is due out whenever?
