Would a cross over cable from my computer with the internet to the laptop be able to get the internet on it?

Or any ideas on how I can do this?
This is my USB adaptor;

It's made by Conext or something like that... Apparently there's only two companies, one begins with 'C', the ohter doesn't

./configure
make
su
make install

Is that it, How do I do a new line?
You can do it that way, but compiz fusion is already installed. All you need is just the manager to enable the "advanced effects".
Go to the terminal and type
Code:
sudo apt-get install compiz compizconfig-settings-manager
This requires an active internet connection.

And about your question earlier, you do not need a crossover cable, just a normal ethernet cable will work. Plug it into your other computer, then on your windows computer right click the active connection (the connections with internet) and share it. I dont remember what tab it is under exactly, but youll find it it a few. Then restart and you should now have internet on the xubuntu computer from the windows computer.

EDIT: O and a new line simply means press enter in the terminal.

Yeah, thats what it is suppose to do, now you have a new line, lol. And yes, you need internet to get the compiz plugin manager. I am surprised you don't have a regular ethernet cable laying around. For now you can use some simple plugins. Go to System>>Preferences>>Appearance>>Visual Effects. Then from there select extras. Now apply and exit. Press ctrl+alt and arrow keys to rotate cube, or ctrl+alt and left click
