Default reccomendation sound card

Ok so I have been on newegg for quite some time now searching for a (good) sound card for a new computer I am going to build in awhile. Now I basically want a sound card that sounds good and at the same time doesn't cost over like $50. And when I find these cards on newegg, most of the reviews are not that good. Please link me to a good sound card that sounds good and can be compatible with gaming and all that at a reasonable price. Thanks!!

You may end up spending a little more for a Diamond or Creatve X-Fi series card which are the two popular brands. The only X-Fi model in the $25-$50 price range there is the Xreme Audio model. I had some fun with that model on XP when the auto updater downloaded Vista drivers despite selecting XP as the OS version.

What type of speaker setup do you have there? 2 1/2, 4, 5.1 or 7.1 surround? probably 2 1/2 and XP? The Audigy SE 7.1 would cover that for $32.99. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102012

For $49.99 right at the high the Diamond XremeSound XS71DDL 7.1 model is seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829111002

For $10 more Turtle Beach has the TBS-3300 7.1 model to look at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829118109

Well one of those cards has bad reviews and the other doesn't support Vista. I am going to building a computer supporting both XP Pro and Vista Ultimate.

The better cards seeing Vista ready software are the higher priced Creative, Diamond, and Turtle Beach models. The most popular for gaming are the Creative X-Fi series models and Diamond starting around $70-$80 retail.

The software for the Creative Audigy 4 Pro ran on Vista here prior to the new build now in use. The auto updater and the MS update site both saw Vista drivers downloaded to XP on the Xtreme Audio model when that was first used and later replaced with the Xtreme Gamer model.

The rebates or vendor deals or open box(returns) are one way to get into a better card. Even while the X-Fi series as one example came out prior to Vista's release the cards now see the updated Vista ready software. The Xtreme Gamer runs for $79.99 at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...abs-_-29102006

OEM at one shopping site for a few dollars less, http://www.antonline.com/p_30SB073000000-NX_261905.htm
