Talking Just ordered new gaming rig

I just ordered my new computer

Q6600
4 gigs of ram
8800gt
cooler master elite
WD 400gb hard drive
Cooler Master Real Power pro 650 watt PSU
(and the other essentials, DVD burners, AC5, fans etc)

The entire thing should come out to about $960 if i get all my rebates.

I'll post pics when I build the computer. It's going to have a blue LED theme.

Him getting his new system, or me getting the GT?

Why would he regret it? It's a pretty good system, he should be proud.

Also, what speed is the RAM?

Because a whole new line-up of cpu's (1600 fsb), mobos (pci-e 2.0), ddr3 ram becoming more standard, dx10.1 cards are all coming shortly. I think I would regret it anyway. Perhaps it was a bit to harsh of me to say that he would. Lots of reasons IMO.

My original plan was to get the Q9450's, but after some consideration, I realized that when it comes out it'll be probably jacked up in price, and out of my budget. Plus, the Q6600 is more than enough for me. As for upgrading in the future, I can still get more ram. And PCI-Express (non 2.0) should be around for a few more years before they completely move over.

@vonfeldt7: DDR2 800

there is one pci-e 2.0 chipset out, ddr3 will take at least another year before it would come even close to be considered a standard, and 1600fsb huh? whens that going to hit?

spending a grand now is totally worth it, that is a very little amount of money for a high quality rig, although personally i would of gone with a e750 or e6850 b/c i think for the next year or so quad core is just overkill.

oh and i cant wait till i get my xmas money/presents so i can build a new desktop =)

I got quad core because I really like to do video editing, and I usually have a video editing program running along side w/ photoshop. Hopefully the quad core would pull me through there .
