You can also use have windows apps with a program called wine on linux. Sometimes playing the games through wine results in bugs.

Linux is VERY different from Win, if you want to try linux, it will take some time to get familiar to the filesystem and command line interface. i think win and linux are heading different directions, win is more concentrating on the user-friendly interface, but linux is focusing on performance and efficiency. you can definitely do the job faster on a linux machine than a win machine.

if you just want to try a more safe or stable os,i think mac os is the better choice, not linux. linux will take you a long time to get used to, and even longer to work fast with it.

well, forgot to mention, it depends on the job you r doing.

for administration work, i think linux is more efficient. many servers are running on BSD,solaris, unix or linux. apparently, linux is great in performance.
