|Linux is sometimes buggy so bugs but its fine for me i only use it for internet and Movies/Music but, I had Windows Vista Installed on my |Laptop, i couldn't play my games on Vista because of the FPS so I installed XP .. Get Linux for Internet but dont get it for Programs because you will have a tough time learning how to install programs and how to compile them. Basically Linux Goof for Internet Windows XP not. |Linux good for games no. |Windows XP| yes. Sorry if this does not make sense, Still learning English.

No offense, no flaming, but you're wrong. Some Linux distros are buggy because they are still in development. There are many different stable versions of linux distros. Many distros are even designed for beginners. It is not at all difficult to install new programs with linux; it's called synaptic packet manager (in most cases) and has a very user friendly graphical interface in where you search for what you want to install. You can do anything with linux that you can do with windows except serious gaming. I say serious gaming because there is a way to play many games in linux (ie BF2142, HL2, etc) but it costs money. To me part of the deal with switching linux is that it's free. Hope this helps.

I agree with that but Tell me what Linux distro isn't still in development? they are almost all buggy (not Minor). But still are a little Buggy. Like PCLinuxOS 2007, I'm using it and it has a few bugs but its the final and not in development.
True Synaptic is very useful for beginners but sometimes you would need to install programs manually due to Needed dependencies which are sometimes not included in Synaptic.

wrong again, but in a sense you are right, compiling on linux is a must-know, not all software comes via synaptic , some just need that install script etc

yeah that english .
you can't compare any linux to xp/vista its not worth it.
those are different systems with different structure but linux thrives to do most things windows do

in response to the OP, yes get linux, ubuntu or Pclinux or sabayon (not suse as it's not for beginners)

cheers mate

Lol, i knew what you meant

Linux is definitly different then windows. There is a learning curve (as with switching to and from and operating system), but distros like ubuntu have made great strives in making it user friendly. Once you install it, it will only take you a few minutes to get used to the different menus, layouts, etc, but once you get used to them, you will wonder how you lived without it.
