Default Difference in sound quality

So, can you really hear a difference from on-board sound to a nice sound card??

Just wondering cause I've never used a dedicated sound card

i have a dedicated sound card....only cause i have like 9 speakers hooked up though

even though i have 9 speakers, my computer is set to output quadraphonic, but only when noone else is home
i have a pair of tiny compaq speakers for when people are home, but when noone is home, quadraphonic is initiated and i have the following ass-kicking speaker power pumping in my room:
2x Aiwa speakers - 60 watts apiece
2x JBL speakers - 60 watts apiece
2x Yamaha speakers - 120 watts apiece
2x Compaq speakers - 10 watts apiece
1x Hartke Bass Amp - 60 watts dedicated bass power

overall, thats 530 amps of whatever i feel like listening to....when noone's home

Yeah it really depends on what do you need for sound for? Like FPS games such as Counter-Strike, it helps so have good sound. So you would want a good sound card.

Which I don't because I'm poor!

im also (hopefully) getting another pair of subs from my uncle for christmas...theyre 10 inch yamahas, 100 watts apiece.
my dad is giving me two 4-speaker cased stacks that he used to use, 100 watts apiece.
im gonna need to get another amplifier for all this stuff.

(why i need all these speakers i will never know, but i love being surrounded by loud music, so whatever )

I have a 2.1 set up and are using onboard sound, Im an audiophile, but still enjoy onboard sound if you get the right one. Realtek makes a great ALC888 and Cmedia makes a great line. I have optical in, 6 analog inputs, and SPDIF out, in, on my motherboard. I run my speaker system, 4 speakers through my optical in, and my bass through analog. It sounds great. If you like sound, get good speakers, and a resonable sound card.

yes, you can definitely hear a difference, especially when using a digital signal, or anything higher than stereo
