If you want correct information you need to know what computer model your friend has. Is it also a laptop or a desktop?

According to the product specification in Gateway's website, that laptop should be able to be upgraded to 2GB of DDR2 667 like seen in This Link.
I believe the laptop should take 200-pin RAM. Judging from the fact that there is only one 214-pin seen from the link (a.k.a. not a common config). Hope this helps.
