Default My New Laptop...

I have ordered this:

Dell Inspiron 1520
C2D T7500 2.2Ghz
1Gb RAM 667Mhz
120Gb 7200RPM HDD
8600M GT
DVD+/-RW Writer
1440x900 15.4" Screen
Vista Home Premium

What I want to know is this.... Since Dell wanted $125 to upgrade to 2Gb of RAM, I said forget that, I can buy this G. Skill for $39 and save $86.. So I need reassurance, will this RAM work?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231116

Next, I know that Dell PC's come with a lot of pre-installed garbage, I have a Vista Home Premium x64 OEM disk that I bought for my desktop, will this reinstall Vista with using the Serial # that came with the laptop?

^If anyone has a problem with that, it's not illegal, I legally paid for both licenses. So take your legality rants to the CD/DVD Section...

Thanks

Well, like always you can never be certain if RAM will work with a certain mobo unless it has been tested, but that RAM seems pretty solid... lots a reviews and very few people saying anything about compatibility issues.

And yes, I think that reloading Vista should work fine.

There actually isn't that much crap that come on the Dell`s. It would be a lot easier to just uninstall the stuff you don`t want on there

I have basically the same exact laptop, except mine had the 250GB hard drive and XP, which cost me $1,029.

Anyways, I upgraded to 2GB from Newegg, and I bought the cheapest DDR2 667 I could find, and it worked perfectly. However the new Inspiron's are designed pretty weird, in order to replace the memory you need to remove a panel on the bottom to access one of the slots, and the other slot is under the keyboard, so you need to remove the keyboard and the surrounding plastic to get at it.

The Dell I had didn't come with much in the way of garbage, just a few Dell programs and AOL or something.

As for your CD Key, it will not work. The reason being that the CD you have is from Vista Home Premium x64, where the one pre-installed is Home Premum x86 (32 Bit).

I had to look in the manual, but it only took about 5 minutes to get to. The hard part was reconnecting the keyboard.

How much did you spend on the laptop?

$1500????

I only paid $1,029 back in October for mine. I also have the 1440x900 screen, although just 1 86Whr battery.

Did you use one of these coupon codes to get $300 off?

Yup... I used that.. That might show how Dell 'loads' the market during times of demand..

wow, well I had a $425 off coupon, but I just customized the same specs on the 1520 and the total came to $989 after the $425 off coupon that I used last time, so I don't know why yours was so expensive..
