Default Does a preinstalled headphone jack use a sound card?

Forgive my ignorance. The working of the sound card is the least understood part of building a PC for me.

Anyway, I was wondering, if you have a case with a front panel headphone jack (which I guess most or all of them have), do you plug the power cord of the jack into the sound card itself? Or does it plug into the mobo? If the latter, is it still able to utilize the sound card?

I guess if it's the former (directly into the sound card), then my question answers itself in a way. I just wasn't sure if the sound card actually had a connector for the preinstalled headphone jack power cable.

Thanks.
