Thanks for the clarification, some had specifically said quad core which is why I was confused - I'll have a look at it. Any thoughts on a video card?

if you want a gamer card, the 8800GT is definitely the best for the money right now.
also, i found the manufacturer's page for that motherboard in case you wanted to be sure that it supports the quad core:

well, you dont really need anything all that great for photo/video/multimedia. i think the 8600GTS would suit you well, even if you use photoshop its still a decent card. if you are really into photo/vid editing, and you need a workstation type graphics card so you can edit huge files, check out the nvidia quadro series. they can be pricey though

Will I be able to run Vista with this setup and the 8600 GTS? Also, can I get the machine running with the RAM I've selected or would a BIOS flash be necessary (I've read in some places you need a more generic RAM just to get up and running so you can flash the BIOS and install better RAM)...

Yes, in fact, the 8600's perform better in Vista...

No, any RAM is the same. From pqi RAM to G Skills... No BIOS flash is needed.

Its a paradox, buy it when you want to, not when its cheaper because there will always be something better.

and post your sarcasm somewhere else?

After X-Mas, Intel is releasing their new 45nm processors. There will be $200-$1100 processors. Grab a $200 one, and run it. It has more cache and the speed is alot faster. Better architecture...
