Default DVD Drives

I'm interested in getting a DVD-ROM drive in my computer. I am currently running under Linux, so I'm guessing it is not to hard to get codecs. What is the best drive? The machine is a little older. Would it lag while playing?

Are you using IDE or Sata? As far as brands go LG, Samsung, HP, Sony and Lite-on are all good brands. I'm running 2 Samsung with lightscribe 20x speed at the moment and mine are Sata.
