Question Since my laptop takes DDR2 does that mean i can buy any type of DDR2 ram?

Since DDR2 is backwards compatible as well?

This is what Crucial says:

"We're sorry.
Crucial currently does not have any compatible upgrades available for your particular system. If you have questions or would like further support, please contact our support department."

* Maximum Memory Capacity: 2097152 MB
* Currently Installed Memory: 1024 MB
* Available Memory Slots: N.A.
* Number of Banks: 2
* Dual Channel Support: N.A.
* CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
* CPU Family: Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2050 @ 1.60GHz Model 14, Stepping 8
* CPU Speed: 1596 MHz

Says on the left:
(2x512) DDR PC2-5200

First what make and model is the laptop itself? The specifications will show what DDR2 memory is supported on it.

That's clearly wrong

You should be fine buying any SODIMM DDR2, if you want 2 or 4GB (check with the manufacturer/manual before buying 2GB sticks to make sure it will take them). I wouldn't get anything faster than PC2-5200/5300 if you can help it though.

The 2 memory slots would be 2gb max there. But the make and model will allow anyone to look over the specifications to see just what memory is supported. It sounds like PC2-5200 may be the fastest anyways. A look at the product page will clear that up however.

You left the model number for the Toshiba laptop out of your sig to see if that one matches the information seen at http://review.zdnet.com/laptops/tosh...-31952936.html That model show support for upto 4gb if the same.

PC eye, thanks for taking the time to finding the model number, i apologize, That laptop is exactly like my laptop, but it's not my model, i have the Windows XP version.

When i first baught my laptop it said the maximum ram it can take is 2GB, now it says i can take maximum 4GB a year later? I'm guessing i need to update my bios or something.
If i buy higher speed ram, will it work on my laptop, since ramd modules are backwards compatible?

Satellite A100
This is exactly like my laptop the model the name is everything the same as mine:
http://www.bookstore.algonquincolleg...s/A100-0FH.pdf

The thing is it takes maximum 4GB, and when i first baught my laptop it only said maximum 2GB.

It takes 2gb dimms explaining the 4gb max seen there. With only two dimm slots that would be the only way you could see that much installed. The problem with the pdf manual seen at the link there however is that it only shows DDR2 memory and not the fastest supported. Prebuilt desktops on the other hand will come with DDR2 667 memory while board will support 800mhz memory as the standard.

The problem with that number instead of the A105 with that seen as A10 5 separated when looking in the support pages the only A10 S0 model seen at the link there supports DDR PC2100 memory. http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...ceghdgngdgnn.0

That was at Toshiba's own support site running a search with that model number. That doesn't help any.
