Ok I have a stock AMD 64 X2 AM2 3600+ On my old M2NBP-VM-CSM AM2 board that died recently
. It still has my X2 and HSF in the socket. When I get my beast ABIT board and Case with UV Blue Cable Binding kit, Im going to transfer the CPU and HSF. My Question is when I put the processor in the socket, will I need to reapply thermal paste due to unbonding or exposure to air. Maybe a stupid question but it is my first time transfering a CPU to another board because All the other boards I have are old and have lived along time so I never needed to transfer the CPU. Thanks to all who helps. I will surely gets some pictures posted of the interior with the Cable binding. Im not getting it until Christmas though so you'll have to wait (Stop your whinning ) Thanks Guys Chris

Yes, you need to re apply the thermal paste. You need to make sure you clean both the CPU and the Heatsink using Alcohol, preferably denatured alcohol and not the rubbing type. Rubbing alcohol has water mixed in, while denatured is pure. Rubbing alcohol can leave a residue behind when it drys. While it will probably not be an issue, its just a cleaner surface to apply the new thermal paste.
Make sure you do not get ANY paste on the pins of the CPU. Make sure you do not get any on the motherboard which could cause a short. If you can polish your CPU fan to a mirror surface, that will help in transferring more heat. |

Which part? I assume the "polish your heatsink" part is the thing with a question about it. Don't do it unless you want to for fun (It's called lapping, and it voids your warranty
).

ha ha. I'm familiar with lapping. I added the appropriate tag to my previous post.

No, I don't want to the lap. I just want to know if I can easily just transfer a heatsink and Cpu to another board without doing anything, (re-appling thermal paste, cleaning, etc...)

No, you have to reapply TP, reinstall HSF, etc.
