Default Which OS is best...

I need to purchase a full version OS for my new build. My needs are simply multimedia and internet. Which OS should I get? Vista or XP. I have XP home edition on my current pc. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated...

I'd stick with XP because if you only need multimedia and internet then you won't need some of the rather inane features of Vista. My grandparents have the same needs and XP suits them fine.

I would say if it's jus multimedia and internet, go with a Linux distribution, no spending on OS. But if it has to be Windows, go with the cheapest one. I'd say Windows 98 SE (It's my favorite!) unless you're running all new fangled hardware, then you'll need XP.
