I’ve recently bought a USB 2.5” HDD box to use with the hard drive from my old defunct Toshiba (w/XP) laptop. I want to extract my personal files that , hopefully are still accessible and put them into my new Acer laptop w/XP. The instructions says that the old hard drive needs to be set to “master mode” - I’m not sure what this means or how to do it ? Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong ?
I’ve tried using the HDD with my new laptop. It detects the hard drive but it doesn’t show up when you click on My Computer , so no access to it’s files.. The HDD circuit board plugs into the old Toshiba hard drive pins OK but there are 4 additional separate pins left doing nothing - not sure if that means anything. Thanks for any help or info. |

Right Click my computer, go to Manage, then disk management. See if the drive shows up there. If so, right-click it and assign a drive letter to it.

Can you try the drive in another machine/laptop or in another enclosure? I have an external enclosure that sometimes doesn't work right off with some drives.
