Computer Startup Issue

On my computer, when it starts up, It starts up to the screen where it asks "How do you want to start Window?" and it lists Safe Mode, Start Windows Normally, etc. (It displays that screen because the following problem has happened before) Once I choose any of those choices, even Safe Mode, it crashes with this screen. How do I start it up?

It looks like it could be the hard drive, but I am not 100% certain, is it possible to try other hardware such as RAM, video card?

How would I test any of that? I don't think it would be the hard drive, because Windows starts to boot... I only have one hard drive, an onboard video card...

this screen is also a reason for having more than one profile with admin rights. sorry i can't see or read the screen. the profile may be corrupted.

Hmmm... I have not messed around with the profiles... Maybe someone else did... How would I check and/or fix that?

Go into BIOS change Boot Priority to CD-ROM, insert your original Windows installation CD/DVD and boot from CD.

If you have XP, just let it run until you get to this page where it gives you options to choose from and choose "Repair a Windows Installation".

If you have Vista, choose your appropriate language then click on Next, then near the bottom click on "Repair Your Computer". At the next page, choose Run System Restore to repair startup problems.

Windows installation only replaces the critical system files and restores your Windows back to its original working state, it does not affect any of your personal files such as Documents, pictures, videos/music.

I have windows XP, and when I do that, it just displays a kind of command prompt... I think I am doing something wrong

When it boots from the CD, it will give you a message like this

"Press a key to boot from CD", and you should press any key right away, I don't know how you got to the C: prompt...
