Mandrake is very user-friendly and is good for a transition to Linux

you need not to instill all of them,
just download disc 1 to disc 2 (I am not sure, you must see the manual)
other disc was collected some program which is no need to instill

I've read that Mandrake is the best Linux Package for new users but I think that SuSe Version is also a good version to consider. I bought Lisnux SuSe Pro (Version 9.1)
Although you should be able to download this package or a demo from the sight:

I'd recommend SuSe as well. First time users would find it very easy to operate.
