Default 8800gt vs 8800gts 640mb. same price. which one?

hi.

buying a new gpu.

either

8800gt 512mb
or
8800gts 640mb

the 8800gt new is 249 euro new.
the 8800gts new is 358.99.

m8 of mine is selling his 8800gts for 230.

should i get it? or is it worth it?
i know the newer models are out in february but who knows what they will be priced at.

suggestions? is it worth it? should i get the 8800gt instead?
ill be playing cod4, crysis nd a few other games. probably 2 x 22" lcd @ 1920 x 1200 when they arrive.

The 8800GT is better then the 8800GTS 640MB, although the new 8800GTS 512MB is already out.

Yes, go for the 8800GT, it's worth it. Also, get an EVGA so you can use the "step-up" program to upgrade 3 months later if you want.

The 8800GTS 640MB is not better, it has an older core processor with old technology. The 8800GT 512MB has the G92 core, which is the latest processor from Nvidia, which yields better performance in all games, even with the 8800GT 256MB version.

If your using resolutions of 1920x1200, then it would be better to go with the 512MB, instead of 256, so it can read and write those extra pixels info.

Nope, I reckon the new 8800GTS is better but only for a very small margin
