Exclamation A Warning

not sure were this goes but im putting here so people see it ( mods please move this to the right place if necessary thanks )

all my pc's just did a windows automatic update then downloaded 7 files and then i lost my internet connection on every pc

so i thought what could the problem be so i did all the usual restart the pc reset the modem etc...

not fixed

i rang my isp there were no problems in my area or with account

so i did i virus scan because i have head about problems with windows update specially when they have brought out a new OS

so my virus scan picks up a file called
shell32.dll
with the infection type as changed
i searched for this file and
the search came up with
C:\WINDOWS\system
C:\WINDOWS\servicepack\i386

i deleted the i386file and hey presto my internet came back on
(i have repeated this on all the pc's )
i never actually lost any connection to the internet but this file was blocking my access

can anyone explain this

why would windows send me a file that blocks my internet use ???

Are you certain it was installed during a legit Windows update? You didn't download anything else from any other site recently?

there is no such update coz simply there is no dir structure in windows in any version ( XP SP2 , Vista Ultimate and Win server 2003 R2 here ) called "servicepack" it's obviously a virus and just in theory if those files were MS legit files don't you think that the antivirus could check digital signatures of them? i have WSUS here everything is stable and fine
