Default Vista running slow...

What to do? I been running, CCleaner and I treat my computer very well. I run 2 different anti virus scans daily and no viruses. Also, no spyware also. I run adware 2007 once a week also. What to do to speed up my Vista? It seems to pause up a lot more than when I first got my newer laptop. Help is appreciated.

Is your desktop running slow or laptop running slow?

If you have Vista Aero enabled, you should disable it and use Windows' classic. You can also disable the services that you don't use to free up system resources, such articles can be found on many sites. Another thing is make sure that you have as little Start-up programs as possible and as few QuickLaunch icons as you can as those all hog your memory. For your Virtual Memory you should set it to 1024-2047.

Why would you disble aero thats one of the only cool things about vista... Are you running 2 different antivirus programs or 2 scans from the program? Also what other programs are you running? What kind of antivirus? Any firewalls?

Aero is cool but how often do you actually use it? I do find any advantage to being able to 'whoosh' my windows around...

Simple. Aero actually slows down your performance when it's enabled. It's one of the biggest resource hogs in Vista and unless you have some high-end graphic cards, it impacts your system rather greatly. The OP has a laptop for his sake he should disable Aero.
