Default HD problem

When I turn on my desktop computer, it powers up but does not find the HD. It can boot from the floppy and CD/DVD drive. If I enter the bios by pressing F2, the drive is not seen. It is set up as the primary master. When I exit the bios, the computer reboots and then it is able to find the HD. The problem is, I'd rather not have to enter and exit the bios to use my computer. Plus, Ubuntu's install CD can not see the HD either way. Any fixes? Is this a bios problem, or a HD issue?

Thanks.

my new Foxconn 945G7MD mobo has this issue too, any drives being connected on a Secondary IDE controller won't be listed in BIOS, but on boot-up it's there and it's also there in windows.
So i suggest you go on your motherboard manufacturer's site and look for an update for BIOS.
If u are sure you've connected properly, the jumpers are configured properly and the hard drive is good then u need to do a BIOS update, not just any bios update choose them carefully

I have already done a BIOS update to the newest version from the motherboards site, but no go. I put the HD in another computer as a slave drive and it showed up fine. Im formatting it now to see if that was the problem. Ill also install linux on it before placing it back into its original computer. If that doesnt work, what could be the problem?
