Question installing wondows xp pro on a pre installed vista system

I got a new computer a few months ago and in came pre installed with Vista. Some old programs i really liked wouldn't work because it is a 64-bit operating system. So I bought Windows XP Pro online and when I tried to install it an error popped up and my computer froze. I pressed the reset button and tried to install it again and the error still popped up. Does anyone know what I can do to stop this error?

I believe it is extremely difficult to install windows on pre installed vista systems. I am not sure how to approach it, but I was made aware by my friend's dad that it is not easy. I also saw this problem in another post and someone said it was difficult there too. Try googling for results?

it's easier this way: format, create 2 (or more) partitions, install winxp first, then install vista on another partition, you'll have a boot menu to choose your op

Also before downgrading contact our pc manufacturer and verify its capable of running xp. I know that sounds stupid but i have had many clients in the past year try to downgrade just to realise they dont make xp compatable drivers for their systems...

Ok, I had this problem with an HP laptop here at the office. I called HP and they gave me all this BS. First they said by doing that I'd void the warranty... then they said it was impossible, until finally I got someone who told me what the deal was. You won't void the warranty or anything like that though. When your computer is booting up, get into the BIOS menu. Look for something called Native SATA. I don't know which menu it's in though. This problem occured about 6 months ago, but if it is enabled then disable it. If it is disabled, then enable it.

Hope this works for you, it worked for me.

That is correct! XP uses Native sata and not the newer AHCI settings.

Like he said, go into your bios and change the settings before installing XP.

I bet the error you were getting was 0x0000007b.

Sometimes you can find some XP AHCI drivers for your sata. Look on your computers support site for them.
